A very pretty cowl that should be in your Fall fashion accessory collection if you live where the weather is cooler. There were a few questions about the stitching not adding up but I checked and the pattern looked correct as posted. Looks pretty simple to me to make.

Such a lovely pattern and not hard to do. I have worked with that yarn mentioned in the pattern and it is a easy yarn to work with. You can use other yarn as well as long as the gauge matches. It will work up quickly and add a nice detail to your outfit. You can always make a matching hat. Good pattern to make for gift and also charity knitting. Thank you.

A beautiful scarf to make and share - the color combination of grey and white gives this scarf an ageless look that would go with most outfits. This would be a great addition to my friend's wardrobe - so glad I know what I am giving her for her birthday this year!

I wonder how this would look worked up in a single color yarn? Part of what I love about the look of this cowl is, I think, the ombre yarn. I'm worried that a solid colored yarn wouldn't make for as interesting of a cowl. Has anyone tried it with a solid colored yarn?

Kris, I haven't tried this with a solid colored yarn, but I think if you got a yarn with a sheen to it - a handpainted yarn or a silk blend - it would show off the lace beautifully. You could always try a few rows in whatever yarn you want to use and see how it works up.

Do you have to use circular needles or can you knit with straight?

You could knit it straight and sew a seam at the end, but you would still need a circular needle to hold the 225 stitch cast on.

I haven't knitted much. How do you block a finished project?

To block a finished item, you will just wet or dampen the fabric and stretch it out and hang or lay flat to dry. This only works on natural fibre yarn, acrylics and other man made yarn will not block, their are many people on the internet and my own daughter will argue this, but unfortunately its true!
