This is a lovely cardigan and I have the perfect yarn for it. It has a nice detail which is not hard to do. I like top down sweaters because I find it falls nicely. Also it eliminates all those seams. I will probably make the sleeves longer as well. Thank you for the pattern.

An historical note about "Top-down sweaters". A friend lived in Germany during WWII and said that all the children's sweaters were knit top down because you could easily unravel them and add to the bottom of the sleeves and body as the kid grew.....there was no money for new clothes.

Always amazes me the strength of the human spirit. Though such a shame the atrocities inflicted by some. Thank you for the reminder and inspiration to persevere for the good.

The Rowan linen cotton mix yarn makes this sweater absolutely perfect for Spring and Summer. The yarn is also hand washable, lay flat to dry so no expensive dry cleaning costs. If you substitute yarns in this pattern you may not achieve the same amount of definition, but it should work up into a beautiful sweater.

I think I would either use smaller pins for the sleeve rib, or less stitches then increase befor beginning the pattern. I don't like the bagginess of them on the pattern, but I do like the actual cardigan very much.

I've made top down sweaters before and I like this very much especially as it and others linked are also for larger sizes. Can I assume that the sleeves can be knitted to whatever length desired?

I would prefer a longer length sleeve, too, three quarters or full length. I don't see any reason why the sleeves couldn't be worked as long as you want them to be. Just remember to take into account the cuff so it wont be too long (something I tend to forget!).
