SSK means slip slip knit. You do it like this Slip one stitch knitwise, slip next stitch knitwise, Knit those 2 stitches together. To Slip a stitch knitwise, put your next needle in as if to knit, then transfer the unworked stitch to right needle. After you've got the two unworked stitches, put your left needle into both stitches, yarn over from the back and complete the decreased stitch. This technique creates a left leaning decrease. I hope this helps.

Hi there, I am hoping that I am not asking a silly question, but in the pattern, basket weave section, could someone please explain the abbreviation SSK for me? I really appreciate your assistance (in advance) )

Hi Mdavey, I just tested the link to the pattern and did not experience any problem with it. I think you may be confusing the blogger's website for a spam site. We only work with Melissa, and what she posts on her personal blog is completely up to her. I can assure that this pattern links to a real blog, it just happens to have some religious themed content on it. Thanks for your comment, Editors of AllFreeKnitting

Mdavey, you are incorrect on all counts of your comment and your language skills are atrocious.

I made this blanket last spring. It turned out great and has found a home with a precious baby boy. It probably measures 30 by 36 when completed. All of the suggestions given should help. I always copy the patterns and put in a word document as suggested, then save in my knitting folder. Happy knitting!

Hi lynzlee 3352516 - We understand your frustration. Have you tried the printing suggestions listed below? You can either highlight the text instructions and copy and paste them into a Word document before printing, or you can highlight them and then choose "Print Selection" and it should only print the text and not the pictures. Hope this helps! -The editors of AllFreeKnitting

Okay so I put the basket weave baby blanket in my patterns. Says it's there but no pattern. Frustrating. When I hit print it just prints a picture of the book cover the pattern must be in. Read you comment about your not being responsible for printing. But, if you offer free patterns you should have some responsiblity to make sure they are available to us. Help! I see someone else was able to get the pattern and make a blanket, care to share how you managed that. Thank you.

If you copy the directions and then paste them onto a new document in word you will have control of what you print. To do that highlight the area that you want to copy. Click on the top left corner and while holding the mouse button down drag the cursor to the bottom of what you are hoping to copy. The area should highligt while you do that. Once you have the area highlighted hold the "control" and the "c" button down at the same time. Minimize what you are looking at, open a new document, put the cursor on it and push "control" and "v" at the same time. What you copied should appear. Then you can play with your margins, line spacing, colors, etc. Hope this helps.

I understand your frustration sharzlee 6866533. Unfortunately, we don't control how the pattern prints, that has to do with the blogger who's site the pattern is on. You can feel free to contact them and ask about a more printer-friendly version. Or you could always highlight the part of the page you want to print and when to go to hit the print button be sure to select "print selection". This will ensure that you print only what you have highlighted. I hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

Try copying the text of the pattern onto a Word or other text document and printing from there. Hope you enjoy making the blanket. Melissa Leedom

I loved making this blanket! Very simple and easy. Ssk mean that you slip the next 2 stitches as if to knit (don't KNIT it) onto your right needle and knit. It's very easy! The YO you did before you slipped the stitches will be in the back. Stick your left needle into the two stitches that you've slipped (your right need is in the back and your left needle is in the front). Now knit the working yarn through both stitches. You've made a decrease. You should have no problem with the number of stitches. I casted on 108 stitches. I've had no problems with this pattern! Here is a photo of the finished blanket and the baby! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?id=1639275158&aid=56234#!/photo.php?fbid=1728194298218&set=a.1442316311447.56234.1639275158&theater

I tried this pattern 3 different times and gave up. Number of stitches listed once past the bottom border was 93, but I could never get sides to match - leave 6 on either side with groups of 8 (4 K, 4 P) to add up. I gave up and will find another pattern to use as a baby gift. Too bad - I liked the looks of this baby blanket.
