This takes you to the yarnspirations website and gives you a 404 permanent error. Yarnspirations recently updated their website and most of the links from just about any website including this one take you to yarnspirations, but not the patterns or stitches like they used to.

Place mats are kind of a necessity in our house, so I like that this pattern calls for cotton yarn. That means I can wash and dry them and not worry. With the different kinds of self-striping cotton yarns that are out there I'm sure I'll find something that will look good on our table.

these place mats are so fresh and light - and would look great on my old round oak table , for that matter, on the old butternut one too - may have to make two sets! I like the variation - adds interest and makes the new place mats fit in well with the 1850s furniture - some of the loveliest ideas come from allfreeknitting.com

Pretty and simple place mats to use for casual dining. Try matching the yarn to your kitchen colors. If you look at the photo of the mats above you will notice that the stripes do not begin and end on the edge of the mat. They start somewhere in the middle of the row. So while the overall look is one of even stripes, there will be some variation in the pattern.

For self striping yarn to work correctly you must knit to the gauge specified, if its not looking stripey, check your gauge. I know this is late, but it might help someone.
