- Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 6.5 mm [US 10.5] circular needle, 24” (61 cm) long
- Stitch marker, yarn needle
Measurements: Cowl measures 12” (30.5 cm) wide x 30” (76 cm) circumference.

Designer's Tips:
- If your circular needles are new, don’t try to use them right out of the package. To uncoil, place them in an oblong cake pan and pour very hot water over them. They will uncoil as if by magic.
- In order not to twist the stitches when joining, after casting on, lay the needle down on a table with the working yarn to the right. Make sure all the cast on stitches are laying to the inside of the cable.
- To mark the beginning of the round, place a ring marker on the right hand needle before working the first stitch. Insert the right hand point into the first stitch on the left hand point and work your first stitch.
- This completely reversible 16 round Marching Arrows pattern may look confusing at first, but don’t be intimidated! It’s really only 8 rounds: 2 rounds each of 8 instructions. It’s also quite rhythmic. The pattern alternates four knit stitches and four purl stitches with a purl and knit or knit and purl between them. The stitches march forward for ten rounds then back up for six. To learn the rhythm of the stitches when starting this pattern, I used this 12 stitch mantra repeat: knit 4, opposite 1, opposite 1, purl 4, opposite 1, opposite 1. You can use my mantra or make up your own. You’ll quickly be marching those stitches back and forth and be wearing your fabulous cowl in no time!

Cast on 72 sts. Place marker for beginning of round. Prepare to work in rounds, being careful not to twist the stitches.
Border
Round 1: *K1, p1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: *P1, k1; repeat from * around.
Repeat last 2 rounds once more.
