The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger sizes the instructions will be written thus ( ).
When working from chart, wind small balls of the colors to be used, one for each separate area of color on the chart. To change colors, twist the 2 colors around each other, where they meet, on WS to avoid a hole.

NECKBAND
With MC and pair of needles, cast on 39 (45-55-79) sts.
1st row:(RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd row:P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 2 rows of (K1. P1) ribbing for 1 (1½-2-2½) ins [2.5 (4-5-6) cm], ending on a 2nd row and inc 3 sts evenly across last row. 42 (48-58-82) sts.
BODY
Work 2 rows stocking st. Inc 1 st at each end of needle on each of next 3 (5-5-9) rows. 48 (58-68-100) sts. Purl 1 row. Inc 1 st each end of needle on next and following alt rows until there are 52 (64-78-118) sts, ending with RS facing for next row.
SHAPE LEG OPENINGS AND PLACE CHART
1st row:K4 (5-6-10). Cast off next 4 (5-6-9) sts. K8 (12-14-27) (including st on needle after cast off).
Work Chart A (A-B-B) across next 20 (20-26-26) sts reading row from right to left. K8 (12-14-27). Cast off next 4 (5-6-9) sts. Knit to end of row.
Note: All Leg Sections are worked at the same time using a separate ball of yarn for each section (keeping continuity of chart throughout).
Beg with a purl row work 1 (1½-2-2½) ins [2.5 (4-5-6) cm] even from cast off sts (keeping continuity of chart), ending with RS facing for next row.
Next row:(joining row). K4 (5-6-10). Cast on 4 (5-6-9) sts. K36 (44-54-80) sts (including chart sts). Cast on 4 (5-6-9) sts. Knit to end of row. 52 (64-78-118) sts.
Cont even until work after neckband measures 4½ (5½-7-10) ins [11.5 (14-18-25.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row and working with MC only when chart is complete. Place a marker at each end of last row.
BACK SHAPING
Cast off 6 (7-10-12) sts at beg of next 2 rows. 40 (50-58-94) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle on next and every following alt row 7 (8-8-14) times more. 24 (32-40-64) sts.
Cont even until work from markers measures 5½ (7-8½-10) ins [14 (18-21.5-25.5) cm], ending with RS facing for next row. Cast off 3 sts at beg of next 4 (4-6-10) rows. Leave rem 12 (20-22-34) sts on a spare needle.
BACK EDGING
With RS facing, MC and circular needle, pick up and knit 31 (37-49-65) sts along body from marker to back. K12 (20-22-34) from spare needle, dec 3 (3-5-7) sts evenly across. Pick up and knit 31 (37-49-65) sts along opposite side of body to marker. 71 (91-115-157) sts.
Beg on a 2nd row, work 5 (5-7-7) rows in (K1. P1) ribbing. Cast off in ribbing. Sew Neckband and Body seam.
LEG EDGING
With first double pointed needle and MC, pick up and knit 6 (8-10-12) sts around leg opening. [With next double pointed needle pick up and knit 6 (8-10-12) sts] twice. 18 (24-30-36) sts. Join in rnd and placing a marker on first st, work 1½ (1½-2-2) ins [4 (4-5-5) cm] in (K1. P1) ribbing. Cast off in ribbing.
