Birthday Cake Infinity Scarf

Celebrate AllFreeKnitting's tenth birthday with a good-enough-to-eat knit infinity scarf pattern, a gift from us to you!

As thrilled as we are that AllFreeKnitting has turned ten, we're even more thrilled to have an audience as passionate about knitting as we are. For this reason, we're celebrating with the Birthday Cake Infinity Scarf, an easy lacy scarf knit on circular needles made to look like a quintessential cake.

Panels of pure white are broken up by stripes of variegated yarn for a tooth-achingly sweet frosted look, and for a little bit of party fun, ten tassels each (one for each year AllFreeKnitting has been around!) dangle from either side. Knitters of any skill level can easily master this lacy infinity scarf because of its easy-to-memorize repeat, but the stripe pattern helps keep things interesting for the easily-bored.

This incredible pattern is tenth in a series of printable patterns we're releasing to celebrate AllFreeKnitting's 10th birthday!

Infinity Scarf Pattern

Border:

Using MC, CO 270 sts. Join to work in the round, placing marker to denote beginning of round. Begin stripe patt. Maintain stripe patt throughout pattern.

Row 1: *k1, p1; rep from * around.
Row 2: *p1, k1; rep from * around.

Rep rows 1-2 3 more times for a total of 4 repeats.

Body:

Row 1: *k3, yo, sk2p, yo; rep from * around.
Rows 2-4: *k3, p3; rep from * around.
Row 5: *yo, sk2p, yo, k3; rep from * around.
Rows 6-8: *p3, k3; rep from * around.

Rep patt until scarf measures approx 7.5” from CO edge, ending on round 4 or 8. Ideally, you would also end after a row 4 of stripe patt.

Repeat border. Bind off loosely in patt using MC.

Finishing:

Weave in ends. Steam lightly to block.

Tassels:

Step 1: Place ten locking stitch markers spaced evenly along the CO edge of your infinity scarf, approximately 27 stitches apart each. These stitch markers will indicate where you place a tassel.

Step 2: Cut 40 8” strands from CC. Strategically cut the colors of your choice from the variegated yarn if that appeals to you. In this example, 10 strands of 4 different shades each from the variegated yarn were cut, and mixed and matched together in the tassels for a colorful look.
Holding two 8" strands together, make a tassel by folding strands in half together.

Step 3: Insert your crochet hook through the stitch on the CO edge where your stitch marker indicates.

Step 4: Pull your folded yarn at the fold about halfway through your work.

Step 5: Reach through the fold of your tassel to grab the tassel ends and pull through.

Step 6: Pull to tighten.
