25g or an oddment each navy #00150 and cherry #00131 - 3-4mm [size 3-6] circular needle 80cm long, plus one 3-3.5mm [size D/3-E/4] crochet hook, or size to obtain gauge.
Instructions
Basic Pattern
No. of sts. cast on mult of 13 + 4 edge sts.
Patt starts with 1 WS row. Work in open rows foll chart between the edge sts., rep motif throughout.
Sts. of motif are reduced by 2 sts. on every 2nd and 4th patt row; on 6th patt row these sts. are inc again by yarn-overs.
Patt is given as sts. appear on RS of work.
Read RS rows from right to left, and WS rows from left to right. Work row 1 once, then rep rows 2-7 throughout for patt.
Method
Cast on 173 sts. royal and work in basic patt; start with 1 WS row and K edge sts. at each end of every row.
When work measures 60 cm (= 199 rows), after a 7th patt row, bind off all sts. Around entire mat crochet 1 round sc [UK = dc] apple green, working 3 sc into each corner st. on every round.
Cont as foll: *1 round sc royal, 1 round sc apple green, inserting hook into the back of each sc of previous round on every round, and always 3 sc into each corner st., rep 4 times from*, cut yarn and weave in tail.
Work 1 sailing boat motif as for Design 6736 and sew to blanket, see photo. Block piece to measurements, cover with a damp cloth and allow to dry.
Sailing Boat
Work the hull in navy from top down. Cast on 26 sts. and work 2 rows garter stitch. Cont in st-st, at the same time 6 times K edge st. at beg of row tog with foll st., and at end of row work a slip dec knitwise over edge st. and preceding st. (= slip 1 knitwise, K edge st., pass slipped st. over). After 12 rows st-st bind off rem 14 sts.
For the sail cast on 13 sts. cherry and work in st-st, start with 1 WS row. On 4th row, then on every RS row 11 times work a slip dec knitwise over edge st. and foll st. at beg of every RS row = 1 st. Cut yarn, bring through the last st., and weave in. Sew hull and sail to front, see photo.
