Child's Marsala Knit Hat

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

- Stitch marker
- Yarn needle
Measurements: Hat circumference measures 18 (20)” [45.72 (50.8) cm].

Gauge: 10 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 16 rows = 4” [10 cm]. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge given.

Directions are for child’s size Small; changes for child’s size Large are in parentheses as necessary.
HAT
BRIM RIBBING
Cast on 52 (56) sts. Join, being careful that sts are not twisted, and begin working in the round. Place marker for beginning of round.
Rounds 1 -14: *K2, P2; repeat from * around for ribbing.
BODY
Rounds 15-17: *P3, K1; repeat from * around.
Rounds 18-20: P1, *K1, P3; repeat from * to last 3 sts, K1, P2.
Repeat rounds 15 – 20 four times.
FINISHING
Cut yarn, leaving a 12” (30.48 cm) tail. With yarn needle, thread yarn tail through all 52 (56) sts. Cinch top of hat as tightly as possible without breaking yarn. Note that after cinching, there will be a small opening. Turn hat inside out and seam small opening. With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
