Materials:
RED HEART® Grande™ (Art 826 available in 5 oz (150 g), 46 yd (42 m) balls): 2 balls 288 Apricot
Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 15 mm [US19]
Yarn needle

GAUGE: 6½ sts = 4” [10 cm]; 8 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stockinette st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

Head Circumference:
20” [51 cm] (22) [56 cm]
Finished Length: 9½” [24 cm]

K = knit
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together
cm = centimeters
P = purl
P2tog = purl 2 stitches together

SPECIAL STITCHES
K2tog = Knit 2 sts together (decrease).
P2tog = Purl 2 sts together (decrease).


Notes:

  1. Directions are for size small/medium, changes for size medium/large are in parentheses.
  2. Hat is knit in rows and seamed in back.

 

Instructions:
HAT
Cast on 31 (35) stitches.
Row 1 (Right Side): K1, *p1, k1* across row.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): P1, *k1, p1* across row.
Rows 3-4: Repeat Rows 1-2.
Row 5: Knit across row increasing 1 (0) st — 32 (35) sts.
Row 6: Purl across row.

For size small/medium only:
Row 7: Knit across row.
Row 8: Purl across row.
Row 9: Knit across row.
Row 10: P2tog, purl across row until last 2 sts, p2tog — 30 sts.

For size medium/large only:
Rows 7-12: Repeat Rows 5-6, 3 times.

For both sizes:
Row 11 (13): *K3, k2tog* across row — 24 (28) sts.
Row 12 (14): *P2, p2tog* across row — 18 (21) sts. 18 (21)sts
Row 13 (15): *K1, k2tog* across row — 12 (14) sts.
Row 14 (16): *P2tog* across row — 6 (7) sts.
Row 15 (17): K0 (1) *k2tog* across row —-3 (4) sts

FINISHING
Cut yarn leaving a tail 15” [38 cm] long. With yarn needle, draw tail through remaining stitches twice and pull tightly. Using mattress stitch, sew back seam together. Weave in ends. Block lightly. Make 1 - 3” [8 cm] pompom and attach to tip of hat
