Each poncho panel is worked from side to side, then sewn together. To accommodate the fabric width, you may prefer working back and forth in rows on a circular needle.

Poncho Panel (make 2)

Cast on 58 (62, 66, 70, 74) sts.

  1. Row 1: Knit across.

  2. Row 2 (right side): K2, yo, k2tog, *k2, k into the back of next st, p1; repeat from * to last 6 sts, k2, k2tog, yo, k2.

  3. Row 3 (wrong side): K2, p2, *k2, k into the back of next st, p1; repeat from * to last 6 sts, k2, p2, k2.

  4. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 39½ (41½, 43½, 45½, 47½)” [100.5 (105.5, 110.5, 115.5, 120.5) cm] from cast on edge, ending with Row 2.

  5. Next row (wrong side): Knit across. Bind off as if to knit.

Finishing

With yarn needle and wrong sides of panels together, sew shoulder seams across one long edge as follows: Begin first shoulder seam at a top corner and sew for about 15 (16, 16½, 17½, 18)” [38 (40.5, 42, 44.5, 45.5) cm]. Repeat on opposite shoulder seam, leaving center 10 (10, 11, 11, 12)” [25.5 (25.5, 28, 28, 30.5) cm] open for neck. With yarn needle, tack lower corners together to form sleeve. Weave in all loose ends.
