Directions are for size Small; changes for sizes Medium, Large, X-Large, 2X and 3X are in parentheses.
Finished Width: 40 (42, 44, 46, 48, 50)" [101.5 (106.5, 112, 117, 122, 127) cm]
Finished Length: 20 (21, 22, 23, 24, 25)" [51 (53.5, 56, 58.5, 61, 63.5) cm]
NOTES
Poncho is knit from bottom edge to top edge. Front and Back are worked the same. Pieces are worked back and forth in rows. Circular needle is used to accommodate large number of stitches
Pattern Stitches
Lace Stitch (worked over 41 stitches)
Rows 1, 3, 5, and 7 (Right Side): [(Ssk, yo) 4 times, k8] twice, (ssk, yo) 4 times, k1.
Rows 2, 4, 6, and 8: K1, (p7, k9) twice, p7, k1.
Rows 9, 11, 13, and 15: K1, [k8, (yo, k2tog) 4 times)] twice, k8.
Rows 10, 12, 14, and 16: (K9, p7) twice, k9.
Repeat Rows 1-16 for Lace st.
Special Abbreviations
ssk: (1 st decrease) Slip next two stitches knitwise to right needle, insert point of left needle through front of sts, knit these sts together through back loop.
Back and Front (Make 2)
Cast on 161 (169, 177, 185, 193, 201) sts. Work 8 rows in Garter Stitch (knit every row).
Next Row (Right Side): K60 (64, 68, 72, 76, 80), place marker, beginning with Row 1, work Lace st over next 41 sts, place marker, k60 (64, 68, 72, 76, 80) sts.
Next Row: Knit to first marker, slip marker, work Row 2 of Lace st, slip marker, knit to end.
Keeping side panels in Garter st and center 41 sts in Lace st, work until piece measures 19 (20, 21, 22, 23, 24)" [48 (51, 53.5, 56, 58.5, 61) cm] from beginning, end with Row 8 or Row 16 of Lace st.
Work 8 rows in Garter Stitch.
Bind off loosely
Finishing
Sew Front and Back pieces together along top edge, leaving center 12" [30.5 cm] open for neck.
Measures and mark 12 (13, 14, 15, 16, 17)" [30.5 (33, 35.5, 38, 40.5, 43) cm] down from top edge along each side edge for armholes. Mark 4" [10 cm] up from bottom edge along each side edge. Sew remaining 4" [10 cm] between markers closed for sides. Weave in ends.
