Land of the Rising Sun Poncho
If standard knitted poncho patterns are too big and bulky for you, you'll love the delicate simplicity of this Land of the Rising Sun Poncho. It's shorter and thinner than most ponchos out there, which is perfect for warmer days or lighter layers. This knitted poncho is made using a ridiculously soft merino and alpaca yarn that will feel like butter on your fingers. You'll probably be sad this easy knit poncho is over, but at least you'll have a super soft accessory to bring with you everywhere!
NotesPoncho is knitted in the round. As the number of sts decreases you will need to change to a shorter circular needle.

Instructions
Poncho
Using longest 4 1/2 mm (US 7) circular needle cast on 544 sts.
Taking care not to twist cast-on edge, work in rounds as folls:
Round 1 (RS): *P1, K1, rep from * to end.
This round forms rib.
Work in rib for a further 4 rounds.
Now place 8 markers around last round as folls: place first marker after last st of last round, then place rem 7 markers so that there are 68 sts between each marker.
Keeping rib correct, now shape each of the 8 sections between markers as folls:
Round 6: *P1, K1, P2tog, rib to within 3 sts of next marker, P2tog tbl, K1, slip marker onto right needle, rep from * 7 times more. 528 sts.
Round 7: *P1, K1, P1, rib to within 2 sts of next marker, P1, K1, slip marker onto right needle, rep from * 7 times more.
Rounds 8 to 10: As round 7.
Rep rounds 6 to 10, 6 times more. 432 sts.
Round 41: As round 6.
Rounds 42 to 44: As round 7.
Rep rounds 41 to 44, 19 times more. 112 sts.
Now rep round 7, twice more.
Cast off in rib.
