Instructions
SPECIAL STITCHES
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together.
SSK = Slip, slip, knit.
Sl1, K2TOG, PSSO = Slip 1, knit 1, pass slip stitch over.
YO = Yarn over.
PATTERN STITCH
Seed Stitch
Row 1: *K1, p1, repeat from * across row.
Row 2: *P1, k1, repeat from * across row.
Repeat Rows 1-2 for Seed Stitch pattern.
Circular needles are used to accommodate the large number of stitches. Poncho is worked back and forth in rows, do not join.
Poncho
Cast on 310 sts.
Work in Seed Stitch until piece measures 2” (5 cm) from cast on edge. Row 1 (Right Side): Continue working first 12 sts in Seed Stitch, place marker, K96 sts, place marker, begin working Chart over the next 23 sts, place marker, K48 sts, place marker, work Chart over the next 23 sts, place marker, k96 sts, place marker and work last 12 sts in Seed Stitch—310 sts.
Row 2 (Wrong Side): Continue working in Seed Stitch to first marker, purl to last marker, work remaining sts in Seed Stitch.
Next Rows: Repeat Rows 1-2, continue to work Chart over stitches indicated until piece measures 18” (46 cm) from cast on edge. End with a Wrong Side row.
Next Row (Right Side): Work first 12 sts in Seed Stitch, K84 sts, bind off next 118 sts, k84 sts to last marker, work remaining sts in Seed Stitch—192 sts.
Finishing
With 192 sts still on needle, place 96 sts on each needle. Place needles with right sides of work together and work 3 needle bind-off on remaining sts: Put right needle through first st on front needle, then through first st on back needle, knit them together in the usual manner. Repeat for 2nd st on front and back needles. Two sts now are on right needle. Lift right-most st over the last st knit and off the needle – one st now bound off.
Repeat until all stitches are bound off. With yarn needle, weave in ends. Block to finished measurements.
