Instructions

Pattern Stitch: Welt Pattern Stitch

(Over any number of stitches)

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): Knit all stitches.

  2. Row 2 (Wrong Side): Purl all stitches.

  3. Rows 3-8: Knit all stitches, every row.

  4. Repeat Rows 1-8 for Welt Pattern stitch.

Special Abbreviations

  1. Knitted Cast On Technique = Place slip knot on left needle; knit into slip knot, leaving the original stitch on the left needle. Also place the new stitch onto left needle, by slipping it knit-wise.*Knit into gap between last two stitches on left needle; leave the stitch on the left hand needle and slip the stitch just made to the left hand needle—1 stitch has been cast on; repeat from * to desired number of stitches.

  2. K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together. 

  3. YO = Yarn over.

Shawlette

Cast on 5 stitches. Working in Welt Pattern Stitch throughout, begin working as follows:

  1. Row 1 (Right Side): *K1, yo; repeat from * 4 times to last stitch, k1—9 sts.

  2. Row 2 (Wrong Side): K1, purl to last stitch, k1.

  3. Rows 3 (Right Side): K1, yo, k3, yo, place stitch marker, k1, place marker, yo, k3, yo, k1—13 sts.

  4. Row 4 (Wrong Side): Knit all stitches—13 sts.

  5. Row 5 (Right Side): K1, yo, knit to stitch marker, yo, slip marker, k1 center stitch, slip marker, yo, knit to last stitch, yo, k1 - 4 stitches increased—17 sts.

  6. Continue working in Welt Pattern Stitch as established and repeating Row 5 every Right Side Row so that 4 stitches are increased every Right Side Row. Work until there are 126 stitches on either side of the center stitch and 253 stitches total. End having just completed Row 1 on the Right Side.

  7. Next Row (Wrong Side) Eyelet Row: K2, *yo, k2tog* repeat from * to * to stitch marker, slip marker, k1 center stitch, slip marker, *k2tog, yo*, repeat from * to* to last 2 stitches, k2.

  8. Next Row (Right Side): Knit.

  9. Next Row (Wrong Side) Picot Bind Off Row: *Cast on 2 stitches on to the LeftHand needle using the Knitted Cast On Technique, bind off 5 stitches; repeat from * until all stitches have been bound off.

Finishing

  1. Using yarn needle, weave in ends.

  2. Block to measurements.
