Erin Yarn is one of the basic yarns available from Imperial Yarn. It’s a beautiful worsted weight yarn made of 100% wool. The yarn feels luxurious and is wonderful to knit with; it’s a 3-ply yarn, so it has excellent stitch visibility. When I made my sample swatch I couldn’t get over how smooth the yarn was. The wool was remarkably soft and smooth, probably partially thanks to the higher number of plys. There aren’t yet a huge range of colors available in the Erin yarn –it’s a new addition to the Imperial family—but the twelve colors that are currently being produced are all fantastic choices. The yarn has a rich look and feel that makes this simple yarn seem very luxurious.
There are a lot of reasons I loved the Erin yarn. Besides being inherently lovely, Erin yarn is made with wool from the USA. When it comes to locally sourced fibers, it’s hard to beat Imperial Yarn. The yarn company grew out of a sheep ranch in Oregon, and uses wool exclusively from Imperial Stock Ranch. With the recent trend towards globalization, it can be incredibly difficult to find out just where your fibers came from. I love that Imperial Yarns proudly proclaims their US origins; I am a huge proponent of buying locally, and I love that buying Imperial yarns means that I’m supporting all sorts of US based businesses.
The story of this yarn only gets more involved and exciting when you know that it was chosen by Ralph Lauren to use in the Team USA Winter uniforms. You know something has to be of an excellent quality to make the cut for Ralph Lauren. When you take all the aspects of this yarn together--its USA roots, the connection to Team USA, and the superior quality of the yarn itself—it’s easy to see why Erin yarn is an excellent yarn choice for any project.
