Fix-A-Stitch
As a 12-year-old knitter, Bonnie was frustrated. She could see and understand how to repair to a stitch in a row below, but just didn’t have the right tool to do it efficiently.
For the next 50 years, Bonnie kept knitting and continued her quest for this device. Finally, she asked her brother-in-law to machine what she was seeking. With her “prototype” in hand, Bonnie approached the owner of her local yarn store. “This is my homemade version. Why can’t I buy a ‘real’ one?” she asked. The laughter-filled response was: “Because you haven’t invented it yet!” Bonnie put it on her “someday” list.
When she turned 65, Bonnie’s “someday” list got a thorough revision: Off the list went scuba diving in Australia, flying her own airplane, and learning Morse code. But the wonderful two-sided technique and tool for knitting nagged and nagged, and the patent-pending Fix-A-Stitch method and tool were born.
Still made in the USA, this two-sided tool and Bonnie’s method make it as easy to correct stitches from the purl side as it is from the knit side. It’s based on the simple concept of turning your tool, not your work.
“It’s easier because you can stay on the front of your work and see exactly what you are doing,” Bonnie points out.
Beginning knitters easily grasp recognition of the knit vs. the purl stitch; advanced knitters love the elegance.
Three sizes of Fix-A-Stitch are included in each “original” kit:
• .14″ – 3.5mm (size 4 needle, works with sock yarn)
• .2″ – 5mm (size 8 needle)
• .28″ – 7mm (size 10.75 needle)
In addition, the Lace Weight Fix-A-Stitch is available in a separate package. It is exceptionally strong for its size (.06” – 1.55mm , or size 000 needle), and comes two to a pack.
Fix-A-Stitch is sold in quality yarn shops all over the world and through online vendors. The Fix-A-Stitch website hosts step-by-step written instructions and how-to videos to help your repair your work — garter stitch, stockinette, seed stitch, faux seams and more. Fix-A-Stitch makes a convenient cable tool, too.
Fix-A-Stitch is just as easy for left-handed knitters, and your style of knitting is irrelevant. With the Fix-A-Stitch method, you can quickly understand the elements of knitting that are needed to execute a good repair … and then you have the method and tool to do it.
