4th of July Party Purse
As you get ready to celebrate the 4th of July, you're going to need something to carry important belongings. This 4th of July Party Purse is just what you need! Not only is it incredibly festive (red, white and blue), but it's easy to knit, requires minimal seaming, and is perfect for carrying around smaller valuables. Enjoy!
Knitting Needle Size15 or 10 mm
Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)
Materials:
- Lilly’s sugar and cream 100% cotton yarn: 1 ball of each color: red, hot blue and white
- U.S. size 15 needles
Instructions:
CO 26 stitches with 3 strands held together
Knit 1 row then:
R1 - K2, * sl1 purl wise, K1, YO, PSSO both the knit stitch and the YO, K2 repeat from * to end of row
R2 - Knit
Repeat these two rows until piece is 20” long or your desired length. Knit 1 more row. BO
STRAPS: (Make 2 ) 2 strands of yarn held together
CO 42 sts
Knit 1 row
BO
With W/S together, sew up the sides, attach the handles to the inside of the purse, be sure to center them, turn purse right side out and you are ready to party!

I need help with the 4th of July Party Purse. Starting with 26 stiches and on row 2 after the * Sl purl wise, K1, YO, PSSO both the knit stick and the YO, K2 (I just lost a stitch) When do you increase in order to keep the purse from shrinking? Help!!! Thanks. Jan

Hi Jan, I just started working on this bag and haven't needed to add any stitches. I'll try to explain what I'm doing... On row 2, K2, then slip the nxt st to the rt. needle purl wise, k1, wrap yarn around rt needle, then pass the slipped stitch back over the knitted st and the wrapped yarn, knit 2 sts then repeat, starting with slipping the stitch. The slipped stitches and the yarn overs make up for each other. I hope this helps :)
