Help! I would love to knit this sweater and many others that you offer, but I cannot manage circular needles. Are we straight needle knitters doomed to extinction?

I know this reply to your question is a bit late, but you certainly can use straight needles for this pattern. The circular needles are suggested only to accommodate the large number of stitches.
