    Yarn Weight(4) Medium Weight/Worsted Weight and Aran (16-20 stitches to 4 inches)

    Materials:

    • RED HEART® “Super Saver®”: 1 skein each 0365 Coffee CA and 0885 Delft Blue
    • Knitting Needles: 5mm [US 8]
    • Crochet Hook: 5.5mm [US I-9]
    • Yarn needle

     

    GAUGE: 18 sts = 3½”; 23 rows = 4” in pat.

    CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge

    SPECIAL ABBREVIATIONS:
    sc-dec = draw up a lp in next ch or st, skip next ch or st, draw up a lp in next ch or st, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.
    dec = [draw up a lp in next sc] twice, yo and draw through all 3 lps on hook.

     

    Bags measures approximately 12” wide x 10” deep

     

    BAG

    Border
    With CA, cast on 60 sts. K 2 rows.
    Next Row (Right Side): K3, * [K2tog] 3 times, [K in front and back of next st] 6 times, [K2tog] 3 times; rep from * to last 3 sts; K3. K 3 rows.

    BAG
    Change to CB and work in pat as follows:
    Row 1: Knit.
    Row 2: Purl.
    Row 3: K3, * [K2tog] 3 times, [K in front and back of next st] 6 times, [K2tog] 3 times; rep from * to last 3 sts; K3.
    Row 4: Purl.
    Rep Rows 1-4 for pat, working next 4 rows with CA, then next 4 rows with CB and repeat until there are 104 rows (26 stripes) PLUS Border– about 20” from beg. Last stripe will be CA.
    Decrease for FLAP: K3tog at beg and end of next row – 56 sts. P 1 row.
    Next Pat Row: K1, * [K2tog] 3 times, [K in front and back of next st] 6 times, [K2tog] 3 times; rep from * to last st; K1.
    P 1 row. K 1 row. P 1 row.
    Rep last 4 rows for pat until there are 36 rows – 9 stripes, ending with a CB stripe.
    Flap Border: K 2 rows with CA. Work Pat Row. K 3
    rows. Work Pat Row. K 2 rows. Bind off.


    FINISHING

    ** With wrong sides together, fold lower 20” of Bag in half up to flap decrease, forming a 10” deep pocket; sew side seams. **

    Flap Edging
    With right side facing and CA, pick up and K33 sts evenly across side of flap from end of Border to seam. Bind off. Rep on opposite edge.

    Strap
    With CA, cast on 200 sts. K 2 rows. With CB, K 2 rows. With CA, K 3 rows. Bind off. Place ends of strap over side seams and sew in place.
