I have the super bulky/super chunky 6 yarn. I have the right size circular needles. But the yarn is variegated colors, not solid color like the one in the picture. So I'm wondering if it will look alright if I use it for this pattern? Or will it look too busy with the varying colors and the box stitch?

I think the pattern of the stitches would show up better with a solid color rather than a variegated.

Easy peasy, and will go so fast with big needles and bulky yarn. Box stitch is a nice basic pattern to know and looks great when you have to knit large pieces, like scarves, sweater torsos and afghans. Really nice pattern!
