On the designers / bloggers page, this afghan is called the Lotus baby blanket. I prefer that name over exploding flower. Exploding has a bad connotation attached to it with all the bad news lately so we probably want to stay away from that word. This is a tightly woven blanket except for the areas of the design.

This pattern is really pretty but definitely not for beginners. I will have to try it when I can really sit and concentrate. I have never used that cast on method but it is always good to learn something new. I still like the pattern although it is a bit confusing. Once made though it will make an unique blanket.

It seems like a nice pattern, easy and lacy but I would like to make changes. I think there will be too many stitches for me to knit as this blanket grows bigger, so I will knit four smaller squares instead of one and join them together to make one big blanket. I think then I will call that blanket, Exploding Flowers Blanket.

Hi Grandmax3, Thank you for leaving a message. You don't necessarily have to download the pattern to get it. You can print it by either using the print option at the bottom of the pattern or by highlighting the pattern with your cursor. Then select copy. Open up a Word doc and paste it into there. Then you can print. I hope this helps a bit. Happy knitting! - editors of AllFreeKnitting

I don't know who decided this should be considered an "easy" pattern. In order to make this blanket, you need to know how to do the magic loop, knit on dpns, and do the disappearing loop method. You need to be able to do the following stitches, K, P, K2tog, Ssk, Sl k2tog psso, K1f&b, and K tbl. If you know how to do all of these things, you should be all set.
