GS (Gathered Stitch): Insert right-hand needle underneath all 5 slipped yarns from bottom to top. K through next st on needle and pass the needle back through and underneath the 5 slipped yarns. This is not an inc.

Tam is worked in the rnd from the bottom up on a circular needle until the crown, then continues to end on dpn.
Hat
CO 72 (80, 92) sts using size 7 circular needle. Pm and join to work in the rnd, being careful not to twist work.
Work in seed st as follows:
Rnd 1 (RS): *K1, p1; rep from * to last st.
Rnd 2: *P1, k1; rep from * to last st.
Rep Rnds 1-2 six more times. Change to size 8 circular needle.
Rnd 15: Work 2 (2, 4) sts in pat, M1, *work 4 (4, 5) sts in pat, M1; rep from * to last 2 (2, 3) sts, work in pat to end—90 (100, 110) sts.
Rnd 16: K
Rnd 17: *K5, sl 5 sts wyif; rep from * to end.
Rnd 18: K.
Rep Rnds 17-18 three more times and then Rnd 17 once more.
