Yarn Weight(6) Super Bulky/Super Chunky (4-11 stitches for 4 inches)

Gauge5 stitches (sts) and 12 rows = 4" [10 cm] in Garter Stitch.

Instructions

Cast on 26 stitches (sts).
Knit every row (garter st), noting first row is Wrong Side (WS), until Hat measures 8" [20.5 cm], ending on a WS row.
Shape top: Next row: [Right Side (RS)]. Knit 2 (K2). *Knit next 2 sts together (K2tog). K2. Repeat (Rep) from * to end of row. 20 sts.
Next 3 rows: Knit.
Next row: K2. *K2tog. K1. Rep from * to end of row. 14 sts.
Next row: Knit.
Next row: *K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 7 sts.
Break yarn leaving a 24" [61 cm] end. Thread end through remaining sts and fasten securely.
Sew center back seam. Attach Pompom to top of Hat.

Is the hat knitted in the round? I don't see any instructions for joining the yarn to create the round. Am I missing something? 11/13/2019

Hi maxi14, this pattern is not knitted in the round. If a pattern on this site is knitted in the round, it will call for either circular or double-pointed needles, and each row will be called a 'round.' This hat is knitted flat and sewn up at the end. This hat looks like it works up very quickly. I would love to give it a try, but I dont have any mega bulky yarn. I do have worsted and chunky weight yarns. What would you suggest for working with those yarn weights? Maybe one of each weight, double strand?

I love the chunky look of this garter knit hat. I do love this color since it is perfect for fall and winter, but this hat would look great in other colors as well. I also really love the fur pom pom on top of this hat. I can't wait to make this about should be quick since it uses bulky yarn.

The chunky yarn and very big needles make the garter stitches look really different - and actually, to me, not at all like garter stitch! This is a really different look for a basic pattern and would look great in a variegated yarn as well as a solid. This is one of those patterns I'd splurge on and use a more expensive yarn. Love this!
