There are many benefits to knitting in the round. Not only do seamless projects require less finishing work, they also tend to be more forgiving in terms of drape and matching up pattern rows. For example, cowls with seams typically are a little more ridgid than cowls that have been knit in the round.

Seamless construction allows cowls and other garments to "pool" a little bit more. Depending on how you like to wear your cowls, this can be a determining factor of which pattern to knit. It's all about that drape!

Another benefit to seamless knitting patterns is that the "ends" of a pattern don't have to be matched up as perfectly as one that requires a seam. For example, if you're trying to join a pattern that has an intricate lace pattern, there are more opportunities to skip a row when seaming together than if you had knitted it in the round in the first place.

When you knit in the round, you're essentially creating a seamless tube. This structure is the perfect shape for many knitted garments, some of which include socks, mittens, hats, sweaters, and cowls. The patterns below are some of our favorite seamless knitting patterns on AllFreeKnitting.
