I like the idea, but I think the drawstring may be a problem. My knitting group knits for the local animal shelters and they always need things like this for rescued dogs that have been neglected or mistreated, but I can see the strings causing lots of nibbles. I shall take the pattern to the group and see what we can figure out. thanks so much for the pattern.

Omit the drawstring and substitute elastic. It will be snugger and there'll be nothing for the dogs to chew on.
