One of my favorite ways to shop for new yarns is to look at a hand dyer’s shop. The variety of vibrant, beautiful colors that a talented dyer can produce is awe-inspiring. Dragonfly Fibers is one independent dyer that I plan on coming back to; the skeins of yarn produced by this company are absolutely gorgeous. I was able to review a Pixie Skein of yarn for Dragonfly Fibers, aptly named van Gogh’s Sunflowers. The colors of this yarn were stunning; I would love to knit up a scarf or hat with this yarn. The depth and variation of the color captured in this yarn is masterful—you certainly won’t be able to find any yarn like this in a standard craft store! It really looks as if the dyers at Dragonfly Fiber were able to somehow turn one of van Gogh’s paintings into a skein of yarn. This is the type of yarn that, with just a look, makes your fingers long for a pair of knitting needles.
The color isn’t the only reason to rave about this yarn. As you all probably know by now, I’m a huge fiber fan. Nothing gets me more excited than a yarn that uses 100% all-natural fibers, like wool. This skein is 475 yards of glorious single-ply Superwash Merino wool. It is a wonderfully soft yarn that will make for a gorgeous project. I’m imagining this as a subtly lacy scarf or shawl—some project with simple stitches to show off the jaw-dropping colorway in this yarn.
