How to Do an Invisible Join
Looking to hide that notch in your cast on row? This invisible join is the technique you've been waiting for.
This invisible join is great for seamless, jogless knitting in the round. Ever notice that little notch in your cast on row when you join in the round normally? This technique prevents that and will give you hats, socks, and sleeves a more polished look.
Even if you're new to knitting in the round, this technique is a piece of cake. All you have to do is cast on one extra stitch. Pay close attention to your pattern, however; many patterns call for this kind of join and will account for the extra stitch in the recommended cast on number.
Step 1
Cast on the number of stitches required for your pattern and then cast on one extra stitch.
Step 2
Take the first stitch that you cast on and slip it purlwise to your working needle.
Step 3
With your needle, take your extra cast on stitch and pass it over the stitch you just slipped and sweep it off.
Step 4
Tug on your tails to tighten the join, and you're done!
