    Knitting Needle Size3 or 3.25 mm

    Yarn Weight(3) Light/DK (21-24 stitches to 4 inches)

    Gauge24 sts = 4" [10 cm]; 28 rows = 4" [10 cm]. Gauge is not critical for this project.

    Finished SizeAppliqué measures: 2½" [6.4 cm] at widest point x 2½" [6.4 cm] long.

    Materials List

    • RED HEART® Comfort Sport™: 1 ball 4310 Hot Pink 
    • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 3.25mm [US 3] 
    • Yarn needle

    Instructions

    Special Stitches

    1. Kfb: Knit in front and back of stitch (increase).

    2. K2tog: Knit two stitches together. 

    3. P2tog: Knit or Purl 2 stitches together.

    Heart Applique

    1. Cast on 3 stitches. 

    2. Row 1 (Right Side): Knit across Row.

    3. Row 2 (Wrong Side): K1, Kfb, K1—4 sts.

    4. Row 3: Knit across Row.

    5. Row 4: K1, Kfb in next 2 stitches, K1—6 sts.

    6. Row 5: K1, P4, K1.

    7. Row 6: K1, Kfb, K2, Kfb, K1—8 sts.

    8. Row 7: K1, purl to last stitch, K1.

    9. Row 8: K1, Kfb, knit to last 2 stitches, Kfb, K1—10 sts.

    10. Rows 9–12: Repeat Rows 7-8, twice—14 sts.

    11. Row 13: Repeat Row 7.

    12. Row 14: Knit across Row.

    13. Row 15: K1, P to last stitch, K1.

    14. Rows 16-17: Repeat Rows 14-15, once. 

    15. Make Split for Top of Heart.

    16. Row 18: K7, turn. Leave remaining 7 stitches on needle.

    17. Row 19: K2, P3, K2.

    18. Row 20: K2, K2tog, K3—6 sts.

    19. Row 21: K2, P2tog, K2—5 sts.

    20. Row 22: K2tog, K1, K2tog—3 sts.

    21. Row 23: Bind off all stitches in Knit, cut yarn and tie off.

    22. Next Rows: Join yarn and work remaining 7 stitches on needle as follows. 

    23. Repeat Rows 18-23. 

    Finishing

    1. With Yarn needle, weave in ends.
