The original pattern is for a baby blanket made up of four large squares. The designer suggests that a throw would be made up of nine squares and a regular blanket would be made up of 20 squares. You pick up stitches along the edge of each completed square to attach the next square, and the designer gives clear instructions and photos to show you how.
