What a beautiful looking throw! I love making lace blankets and throws so I'll have to add this one to my to-do pattern list. It is lovely in the Vanilla color, but I think it would also look great in pastels such as aqua or peach. Thanks for another wonderful pattern!

I made this pattern as a wedding gift for a nephew. I did it using Cascade Pacific yarn in a slate Grey color. Used the recommended needle size. It turned out beautifully. I was so proud to be able to give them as a family keepsake gift. The pattern is extremely well written and precise. The pattern is beautiful. All the ladies in my knitting group felt as though it resembled large shell pattern rather than a claw pattern. In any case, the project was lovely and I'mso glad I chose this pattern.

as these patterns come to australia, maybe the alternative ply for australian wool could be mentioned and also the needle size.

these patterns are not "coming to" australia-australia is accessing them from where they are and since you are the only ones that use the ancient ply method of determining yarn and needle size, you should look up the equivalents for yourself and not try to harass a free site into doing everything for you, next thing you know people will want the people who provide the patterns to knit it for them!

Hi accounts 3833250, There are a ton of free yarn ply conversion charts on the Internet. Here is a helpful one that includes Australian conversions: http://www.karpstyles.com/yarn_conversion.html Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

I made this several years ago from a kit. It is absolutely beautiful! A suggest I would make, mark each pattern with a stitch marker so you can check each patter to be sure you didn't make a mistake. Very easy to do. This way you can easily see where you went wrong.

The yarn specified for the Bear Claw Throw is incorrect. When you click on the link for the pattern, you find that the correct yarn is TLC Amore, which is a worsted weight yarn (class 4), not a superfine yarn (class 1). The specified needle, size 8, is correct for a worsted weight yarn.

More importantly this yarn has been discontinued for two years! I wasted a week trying to get it, and finally called Coats and Clark and they said it had been discontinued. Irritated that this was overlooked when issuing this pattern.

But the PurpleKitty site does say it's a "featherweight" yarn. The afghan is supposed to very airy and light so I'm thinking that the yarn is supposed to be a fine or sock weight.

Just checked "Yarndex" and, yes, they do say it's a light boucle worsted weight. I stand corrected.
