I made this hat up and was incredibly disappointed. I've been knitting for years and this is one of the worst patterns I've ever tried. First problem was that instructions did NOT give us the metric equivalent to the #11 needles as it shows on the info page. The 2nd problem was that the hat knits up like a stovepipe and there is very little give to it and would only fit the child for a very short period of time. It really doesn't even deserve any stars.

This web site provides the metric equivalent to the needle size as a courtesy, the pattern designers happens to be in the US and provides the info according to what needles she uses, she's under no obligation to do for you, what you should be doing for yourself. If your hat knitted up like a stove pipe, that's down to you, not the pattern. If you are not happy with the pattern just change it, its not carved in stone. The negative comments on a wonderful site that offers so much for free are not necessary.

I made the Happy Hat, beautiful pattern. I used size 7 for a child's size, came out so small, after sewing it up, it measured 5 inches across. Looks more like a mitten without a thumb than it does a hat. I will make it on larger needles next time. Thanks
