- 2 balls Alaska Yarn in Navy (A) (24545)
- 1 ball Barisienne Vert fluo Yarn in (B) (29648)
- 5.5 mm straight knitting needles
- 1 tapestry needle
- Pomp Pom maker (61274)
Stitched Used
The B yarn is knitted using 2 strands together with 5.5 mm needles.
The A yarn is knitted using 1 strand with 5.5 mm needles.
Garter Stitch (G. st), Knit all the sts.
Reverse Stocking Stitch (rev St-st),
Row 1: purl.
Row 2: knit.
Repeat these 2 rows.
Knit the Hat
Using A cast on 73 sts.
Work in G. st as follows:
- 4 rows A,
- 2 rows B,
- 2 rows A,
- 2 rows B,
- 2 rows A,
- 2 rows B,
- 4 rows A.
Then work 25 rows (13 cm/5 in) with A in rev St-st.
On following row, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 7, knit 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
65 sts remain.
Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
On following row, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 6, knit 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
57 sts remain.
Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
On following row, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 5, knit 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
49 sts remain.
Purl 1 row, knit 1 row, purl 1 row.
On following row, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
41 sts remain.
On following row, purl1, purl 2 together, purl 3, purl 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
33 sts remain.
On following row, knit 1, knit 2 together, knit 2, knit 2 together, continue thus to end of row .
25 sts remain.
On following row, purl 1, purl 2 together, purl 1, purl 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
17 sts remain.
On following row, knit 2 together, purl 2 together, continue thus to end of row.
9 sts remain.
Finishing
Cut the yarn, leaving a 20 cm (8 in) length of yarn and thread this through the tapestry needle.
Insert the needle through the 9 sts, remove needle and pull tight, sew a few sts to secure and sew in yarn end neatly along edge.
Sew seam of turn up (striped part). Turn hat inside out, then continue the seam to point at top (the right side of the hat shows the knit rows).
2 Make a pompon using B and sew it securely to top of hat.
Sew in all loose ends along wrong side edges and trim the ends

I have got to the point where I am now knitting to start decreasing - have 73 stitches and am on the row where k1, k 2 tog, k7, k 2 tog - continue thus to end of row and it never leaves 65 sts. remaining. I believe there is something wrong with the pattern - please help
