Enchanting Forest Baby Blanket

Sure, you could knit a baby blanket that's a single stitch throughout, but what fun would that be? You'll have a blast knitting this Enchanting Forest Baby Blanket, and it'll come out so gorgeous, you might want to keep it for yourself. The timeless pattern of varying stripes gives the blanket an antique look, making it a wonderful hand-me-down for your children's children. The size of this baby blanket is also more than enough for a small child, so there are no age restrictions. Knitting for baby has never produced such lovely results.

I haven't done it yet, but I've been me meaning to, my niece is getting married and this is what she wants, she didn't realize it's baby size and wants it for her wedding gift, so I'm going to upsize it by making it with super bulky yarn for her. So, as soon as I do it, I'll post it here for you.

This is a beautiful pattern. It can be done with a color changing yarn. I used a blue ombre yarn and I believe it turned out great the pattern wasn't lost in the changing of colors.

Thanks for all the great tips and especially about color coding the sections. Here's my question The Tree of Life Diamond sections have 30 rows each. The Baby Steps section has 4 rows, so at the end of the 30 row sections for Trees Diamonds, you end up on Row 2 of the Baby Steps section. Correct? So when starting again at Row 1 of the Repeat, what row do you start on for the Baby Steps - Row 1 or Row 3? I made a jpg out of the color coded rows - does this look right?

You will follow the rows consecutively for each pattern section of the blanket, it is not reliant on what row you are on in one section to continue with the next section, for example row 5 in tree of life and diamonds will be row 1 in baby steps, as long as you follow each row consecutively, you'll be fine. When I make this pattern I use a paper and pen and write the title of section at the top, then mark off each row in each section as I complete them. Happy knitting.

This is an intriguing looking blanket. I love trees. I also love the detail in this. I don't have any babies to make this for at the moment but you never know. I think it will be worth the effort. I will have to write it out in rows so I can keep track of the different patterns in each row. It will be a challenge but it should be worth it. Thank you.

This would not be a good idea, you would lose the look of the pattern in the changing colors of the yarn.

Works up beautifully! Use a row counter to track where you are in the 30 row pattern. Once you complete about two sets of the 30 row pattern, it becomes much easier. The 'Baby Step' rows help you know where you are, and can be used to count rows of the pattern also.

Sometimes when I see a complex pattern like this I think how lovely it would be to make as a gift for someone. When I work a pattern like this I print out the pattern sections and then check off each row as I work it. I actually like stitch markers too to make sure I end up with the correct amount of stitches in each pattern section.

This is a beautiful pattern! It looks like it would take a lot of time and I see people having trouble with it, but I am sure it would be worth the effort. I would love to see it as a bed size blanket, but I'm not sure I'd want to tackle that!

Help for those that are finding this hard. 1 - write each row out on individual idex cards - Thanks Golden Knitter - BUT write each pattern in a different colour. I used Green for Tree Purple for Baby STeps and Blue of Diamond. This makes thing so much easier. 2 - I have put markers before the 1st Baby Step and the last one of each pattern repeat. This isolates the Tree of Life pattern from the Baby Step, Diamond, Baby Step repeats. I bought the ugliest crochet cotton I could find to do this. 3 - Now just make sure you are writing the pattern out. I wrote out the Tree of Life pattern, then went back and wrote out the 1st BAby step pattern, then went backnd did the Diamond and BAby Step patterns. Finally wrote out the last Tree of Life pattern a separate line. Good luck

I so want to make this blanket. I can do the stitches, but the pattern is daunting! I tried to write it out row by row but got stuck immediately. Is the pattern long or short ways? Anyone interested in sharing their written out pattern?

Whenever Im knitting an item with a pattern, I write each row on an index card. As I complete the row, I put the row I just finished to the back of the cards. This way I always know what row Im on and its much less confusing than looking at all the rows in the directions. Love the blanket! My youngest daughter is expecting in February, I think Ill make it for her baby.

This is such a beautiful pattern, I can imagine it as a Christmas afghan in a deep forest green. Nana Wanda I think the baby steps section of 8 stitches is the one between the tree panel and the diamonds panel. Hope that helps.

I also have too many stitches left. The picture looks like there is a cable between each pattern stitches if so what is used. I love the pattern but it doesn't make sense to me. Please advise

I have made this blanket many times. It is easy, fun and beautiful. Cast on 193 stitches to make the blanket exactly the way the pattern says. I would add an equal number of stitches to either side for a more substantial look. The border as written is 5 seed stitches on either side. Adding to that makes it much prettier.

I am working on the Enchanted Forest baby blanket... It's a great pattern, however, there is an error on Tree of Life row 9. There are 15 stitches for this blick, but row 9 shows only 13 stitches. I am guessing the P1K1 should repeat three times, not twice. Can anyone confirm?

It is written per row and even sectioned off by the amount of stitches. If this is too difficult for you to follow, you can cut and copy it to a new document on your computer line by line, which i think is what you are getting at in your comment.
