I've been having an issue with this pattern, where the edge of the beanie always curls upwards, anyone know how I can stop that from happening?

Joining in the round makes the pattern stocking stitch, it naturally curls, depending on the fiber you used to make the hat, blocking is usually effective for fixing the curl. Blocking is only really effective with natural fibers, for manmade fibers washing it and laying flat to dry should help. Happy knitting

I would like clarification of the ssk in the video. As I understand it, you slip the first stitch knit wise, the second stitch purlwise then knit both those two stitches together. Is this correct?- pattern- Winter Cable Knit Beanie

Hi margomacleod, you are correct. Heidi demonstrates and explains how she works the ssk at 4:02 in the video. We hope this helps! Happy knitting! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

SSK in knitting traditionally is slip the next two stitches knit wise from left to right needle, then knit both stitches together from that position, back in the day this stitch was called knit two together through the back of the loop, there are3 tons of tutorials with pictures of this technique online if you search SSK knitting technique. Hope this helps. Happy knitting

I really wish people would stop rating patterns they haven't made, that is super annoying on this website. I made this pattern and the listed yarn and needle is not correct because it's way too thin and made a teddy bear doll sized hat, at least it was good practice for when I decide to make an actual adult size with a thicker yarn and larger size needles. The pattern is written great otherwise.

I have to agree with you about the rating system on this website, there is an option to rate it as have not made it, but most people ignore it and use the rate system for their opinion rather then the pattern. I do have to disagree with you about the pattern though, my knitters group have made many hats to donate out of the cold project in our city and the yarn and needles are correct, unless you need to change due to a gauge issue.

This is a very nice pattern. Knit beanie patterns can be lots of fun, and this one looks like it won't disappoint. Printing it out now!

I'm starting the decrease rows but on the first row I end with 66 stitches instead of 74 as it says in the pattern. Is this a mistake in the pattern?

it would be nice ifyou would give the size of needle and type/ply of yarn

Hello witch26 3771577! Four double pointed needles are used and it appears as if the designer used a bulky weight yarn. Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting

Not everyone knows what size needle to use with which size yarn and there is also no gauge. I am guessing you can use a circular needle instead of 4 dpns

Please supply a needle and yarn size. This is basically useless!

Hi witch26 3771577! We just spoke with the designer of the pattern and she used Stitch Nation Full O'Sheep yarn on US 9 needles. Gauge was 16 sts = 4 inches in stockinette. The pattern has been updated to include this information. Hope this helps! -Editors of AllFreeKnitting
