STITCH GUIDE
Chevron Stitch (multiple of 13 sts + 1)
Row 1 (RS): With A, * kfb, k4, ssk, k2tog, k3, kfb; rep to last st, k1.
Row 2: With A, knit.
Rep Rows 1-2, 3 more times
Row 9: With B, * kfb, k4, ssk, k2tog, k3, kfb; rep to last st, k1.
Row 10: With B, purl.
Rep Rows 1-10 for patt.
Towel
With A, cast on 53 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Work in Chevron Stitch until Towel meas 13” ending with Row 2.
Next Row: With A, *k5, ssk, pm, k2tog, k4; rep to last st, k1 – 45 sts. Knit 1 row.
Dec Row: * K to 2 bef m, ssk, sm, ktog; rep 3 more times, k to end – 8 sts dec’d.

Hanging Loop
Knit 36 rows.
Button Hole
Row 1: k2, bind off 4 sts, k2.

What does "k 2 bed m" stand for? Can you please explain this to me?

I think you might mean K 2 bef M", which is knit to 2 stitches before the marker. It's not in the legend or on any knitting abbreviations list, since it has been made up for this pattern.

what do all the abbreviations stand for?...there is no legend...can someone help me understand directions as I would like to make this towel for my children - thanks!

I love things with chevron designs, and this towel is great! I really like the hanging loop at the top. It keeps the towel from falling down, or being pulled down by toddlers (or cats). I like the stripes but I might try it in self patterning yarn and not changing colors. I pinned this one to make!
