    NotesEach mitt measures 8” (20.5 cm) circumference and 8” (20.5 cm) long.

    1. Each mitt is worked in the round on double pointed needles, beginning at cuff.
    2. About halfway through hand, the mitt is worked back and forth in rows to leave a thumb opening. Then the mitt is completed in rounds.

    GAUGE: 8 sts = 4” (10 cm); 12 rounds = 4” (10 cm), in Stockinette st (knit every round) with B. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

    • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 8 mm [US 11] set of 4 double pointed needles
    • Stitch marker, yarn needle

    MITT (make 2)
    Cuff
    With A, cast on 16 sts. Divide sts evenly onto 3 double pointed needles (place 5 sts on each of 2 needles and 6 sts on the 3rd). Place marker for beginning of round. Taking care not to twist sts, prepare to work in rounds. Rounds 1 and 2 (right side): Knit.
    Rounds 3 and 4: Purl.
    Rounds 5–8: Repeat Rounds 1–4.
    Rounds 9 and 10: Knit.
    Begin Hand
    Change to B.
    Rounds 1–7: Knit.
    Thumb opening
    Turn at the end of Round 7 to begin working back and forth in rows.
    Row 8 (wrong side): Slip 1 as if to purl, purl to end of row.
    Row 9 (right side): Slip 1 as if to purl, knit to end of row.
    Rows 10–13: Repeat Rows 8 and 9 twice. Do not turn at the end of Row 13.
    Complete Hand
    Resume working in rounds.
    Rounds 14–18 (right side): Knit.
    Round 19: Purl.
    Bind off as if to knit.

    FINISHING
    Weave in ends.
