Using smaller needles cast on 85 (93, 101, 109, 117) sts. Work in Seed st for 1½" [4 cm], ending with a WS row. Change to larger needles and St st. Work even until piece measures 5" [12.5 cm] from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape sides

Shape armholes

K38 (42, 46, 50, 56) sts, pm, work rem 7 sts in Seed st. Keeping 7 Front edge sts in Seed st and rem sts in St st for pat, work until piece meas 5" [12.5 cm] from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape side

Next row: (RS). Work first 7 sts in Seed st, pm, knit to end.
Keeping 7 Front edge sts in Seed st and rem sts in St st, work as for Left Front until piece measures 2 (2½, 3, 3½, 4)" [5 (6, 7.5, 9, 10) cm] from beg of armhole shaping, reversing shaping and ending with WS row.
Buttonhole row: (RS). K1, p1, k1, cast off next 2 sts, p1, k1; knit to end.

This is the kind of cardigan I have been looking for, but it looks like there are only two buttons? I prefer a cardigan that will button up all the way in case it gets cool. It wouldn't be that hard to add more button holes, though. This one goes on my gotta have list!
